CALL FOR ARTISTS - SEPTEMBER 2017 PHOTOGRAPHY EXHIBIT You are invited to exhibit in the Southern Shore Art Association Gallery
Opening Reception, SEPTEMBER 1, 2017 5:00-8:00pm Exhibit runs through October 1st. Opening with a reception to meet the artists in Michigan City's historic Uptown Arts District. Open Gallery hours are Friday, Saturday and Sunday afternoons from noon to 5pm (cdt)
There is no doubt that everything we create thru the camera lens, is inspired by something or someone. It is also true, that music and art can intertwine. We want to see how your work is inspired by, an homage to, or dedicated to music you love or remember. It can be as simple as a song, sung to you as a child, or an overture that has stuck with you.
The Lyrics or the Song can be the title. Or, you may subtitle it to tell the journey. How did the music bring you to this photograph, or how the photograph brought you to the music?
Text me with any questions at all. Carol Estes 219.309.1780
This show is juried, and the juror fee for each photographer will be $10, in addition to the prescribed SSAA entry fees. Awards include First, Second, and Third Place, as well as the Paul Dunne Award, an annual award set forth by one of the founding members of SSAA. The Paul Dunne Award does include an award of $100.00.
Our juror for 2017 is Aimee Tomasek. Aimee Tomasek (MFA University of Kentucky) is an Associate Professor of Art at Valparaiso University, and serves as the Art Department Chairperson. Tomasek is a documentary photographer. She addresses, visually, the social and cultural relationships between industry and regionalism along with more personal institutions such as faith, ethnic foundations, and a sense of community. Major projects she is involved with, and has exhibited include; “Hot Idle; LTV Steel, Indiana Harbor”, “Knee High by the Fourth of July: Overholt”, and “Mardi Gras, celebrating with the Saints and Sinners”, “Crying with the Saints and Sinners’, and “Krewe”. “Down it Comes, up it Goes: Co-Alliance, Maiden Elevator”, and “Good Cooks: Portraits from the Church Cook Book” are portfolios she is currently involved with.
Special Notes: All work should be ready to hang. Artwork should have professional wire with the wire ends taped (sawtooth hangers or hooks are not acceptable). (exceptions follow)
The Gallery is making a wiring exception for photography placed on various substrates, such as metals and acrylics. We prefer a wired hangar, but if they are factory shipping with a custom in-house hangar, we will accept it. Artwork must not have been created in a class or workshop and must be original to the exhibiting artist. All work must be available for sale. Space determines if all of your pieces will be displayed.
1. This exhibit is open to SSAA members and guest, and is limited to Photography only. The work must have been produced within the last three years, and not exhibited previously at SSAA. Fractals, and digitals creations will not be accepted. Composites, and post processing (such as, but not limited to textures, filters, etc.) are allowed, but all integral images must have originated as a photograph, and by the photographer submitting the work.
You may enter up to 3 pieces. For all artwork sold, SSAA receives a 30% commission from members and 40% from non-members. For members, there is a $10 entry fee for this exhibit. Non-member entry fee is $40, as well as a $10 juror’s fee. Apply that $40 to become a member now and your membership will not be up for renewal until July 1, 2018. With a membership, your entry fee then would only be $10 for succeeding exhibits.
2. With your entry for this exhibit, members are committing to share in the co-operative operation of the gallery for one afternoon by maintaining gallery opening hours, greeting visitors and managing sales. The gallery is open Friday, Saturday, Sunday from 12-5. As an alternative, you may pay $30 for a substitute sitter. Email email@example.com to schedule your sit date.
